Rogue Area 2.0 - Our biggest update yet!

Hey everyone! The Rogue Labs team has been hard at work adding a variety of new features and functionality to Rogue Arena and we’re about to post our single biggest update yet, containing some truly game changing new features.

Before we get into the details we want to say a HUGE thank you to all of our students and users who have made Rogue Arena possible. We thoroughly enjoy working on the platform and hope you enjoy working in it, just as much :)

Our 2.0 update is expected to drop April 26th, 2025 where it will be available to all current Rogue Arena subscribers. An overview of the changes includes:

  • NEW FILE SHARING: Completely re-written file sharing allows users to dig into virtual machine hard drives, personal or team drives, to copy, upload, or download gigabytes of data. Perfect to bring new security tooling into scenarios or perhaps download Elastic Security logs from applicable scenarios!

  • NEW TEAM HUB: The new Team Hub allows teams to collaborate and compete working through training scenarios and certifications in Rogue Arena. It provides verbose detail and statistics dashboards to track team certification status and progress

  • NEW USER PROFILE: The new User Profile allows users to view their attendance in live or on-demand courses, retrieve digital certifications or certificates of completion, or view team makeup, permissions, and certification status

  • SCENARIO HOT PATCHES: Scenario hot patches allow Rogue Administrators to dynamically update deployed scenarios and virtual machines in place. This allows administrators to fix bugs, update software, and more without users having to re-deploy or revert any training scenarios

  • CUSTOM VIRTUAL MACHINE SNAPSHOTS: Custom virtual machine snapshots allow users to create, delete, revert, or manage custom snapshots on any virtual machine they control!

  • TABBED VIRTUAL MACHINE WINDOWS: New tabbed virtual machine windows allow users to easily open NEW virtual machines in tabs! Easily drag and drop VM tabs to other VM windows and build your ultimate training setup

To learn more about EVERY new feature check out the verbose changelog below:

🖥️ Virtual Machines

  • Clipboard Sync: We now monitor your host computer clipboard allowing for seamless copy/paste into VMs.

  • Tabbed VM Interface: Open VMs in draggable, reorderable tabs. Easily dock/undock VMs between tabs.

🏠 Rogue Arena Homepage

  • Guest Watermark: Bright gold watermark on guest scenarios, with tooltip for context and explaination. Easily identify when working in guest scenarios.

  • New Deployment Task Flow: Deployment tasks were redesigned with more detail into running tasks and progress.

  • Dock Enhancements: New icons and consistent VM placement controls.

🚀 Scenario Hub (PREVIOUSLY Deployment Manager)

  • Sleek new interface and layout.

  • Shows scenario version for each deployment.

  • More visible “Deploy New Scenario” button.

  • New reset flow to upgrade scenarios, reset task unlock progress, or redeploy with one click.

  • Redesigned deployment sharing now supports “one-click” sharing with teammates.

  • Team Admins can now manage all team deployments (start, stop, delete scenarios).

🧰 ALL VMS PAge

  • Unified, cleaner layout.

  • Start/Stop VMs individually.

  • Complete snapshot control. Create, delete, or revert vm snapshots on any vm you control

📁 File Browser & Vaults

  • Redesigned interface which feels like a real file explorer window.

  • Vault storage increased: 5GB (personal), 20GB (team).

  • Uploads now support files up to 4GB in size to individual vaults, or directly to virtual machines.

  • Direct VM file browsing and manipulation — drill into VM hard drives, copy/paste files across VMs or to/from personal or team vaults.

  • Drag-and-drop files from your host computer, to any location open in file browser.

  • Recent path “breadcrumbs” for easy/fast navigation and bouncing between VM hard drives or vaults.

  • View files as a grid, or in a list including filesizes and other metadata.

  • Download files from scenarios or vaults which are from “non-protected” scenarios (some scenarios contain licensed files and may not be downloaded from).

  • Team leads can easily lock any team vaults allowing junior operators to copy files FROM vualts, but not modify.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Team Hub

  • All-new interface with support for the new Rogue Arena role Team Training Manager.

  • Team Status Panel: See which of your teammates are online and see what scenario they’re training in.

  • Team Dashboard: View chapters unlocked, VM hours, progress timelines, leaderboards, and more.

  • Certification Dashboard: Tracks teammate certification progress and course progression. View workforce certification status identifying percentage of workforce certified to different levels.

  • Activity Feed: Easily query significant events across Rogue Arena filtering on event type or included/excluding users on your team. Query events like scenarios deployed, scenarios shared, unlocks, completions, certificates of completion, or certifications passed.

🧪 Scenario Deployment Flow

  • New scenario deployment flow allows users to easily review scenarios that can be deployed, review difficulty, tags, current sceanrio progress, completion amount, and more all in one screen.

  • New pre-deploy step allows users to modify build versions or select a task reset preference.

🔧 Patch System

  • Rogue Arena administrators can now build and configure patches to active running scenarios. These can copy files, run scripts and more to upgrade user scenarios without resetting user progress.

🎓 Curriculum Viewer

  • Course Certificate of Completion’s now unlock dynamically based on the % of courses finished.
